Genus Carduncellus is represented in Egypt by Carduncellus eriocephalus Boiss valbiflora (Kharshoof , Khosheroof , or Khashroof) and Cmareoticus (Del) Hanelt (= Carthamus mareoticus Del) They are wild desert plants native to Egypt belong to tribe Cynarae , Family AsteraceaeLittle information was reported on their chemical constituents and biological activitiesIt was , thus , deemed important to carry out biologically guided study of both speciesThe present work included : PartI : Biological studies of the different extracts and the essential oils of Carduncellus eriocephalus and Cmareoticus Part II : a) Phytochemical investigation of fractions responsible for different biological activities of both plant
