The aim of this work is to understand the behavior of a compact residential passive unit. The solar decathlon first Egyptian house (Slides) is analyzed and used as the base case. The orientation of the dwelling as well as the insulation type and thickness were studied. Shading elements depth and perforation percentages were used as variables for thermal comfort and energy consumption simulations (using Energy - plus) and annual daylighting levels (using daysim and radiance). A new screen design is proposed and evaluated for further development ER -
