Scientists have been trying to determine the significance of their expression in early diagnosis, in the assessment of cancer stage and metastatic development. Their role in local tumor growth, in the formation of distant metastases and involvement in angiogenesis has been investigated. The study was conducted to investigate salivary gland tumors for the following: Immunohistochemical expression of VCAM-1 and the relationship between VCAM-1 as regard tumor malignancy grade, tumor angiogenesis and MVD. Materials and methods: Fourty eight paraffin blocks of salivary gland neoplasms (13 benign and 35 malignant), in addition to five specimens of normal minor salivary glands that served as a control, were immunohistochemically stained with VCAM-1 antibody. ANOVA and Tukey's tests were used for the statistical analysis, to compare between the control and the different types of benign and malignant salivary gland neoplasms. Results:VCAM-1 immunoreactivity has been detected in normal and tumor tissues. The reaction was observed in tumor cells as well as intratumoral and peritumoral ECs, especially in vessel abundant regions UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
