<br/><br/> The incidence of enterococcal infections has increased in recent years because of widespread multi-resistant enterococcal strains and increasing numbers of immuno-suppressed patients and catheter-related infections. In the last two decades, particularly virulent strains of Enterococci that are resistant to vancomycin (vancomycin-resistant Enterococci, or VRE) have emerged in nosocomial infections of hospitalized patients. Immunocompromised neutropenic cancer patients were found to be at high risk of blood stream infections nosocomial infections specially VRE
