The study area is bounded by longitudes 310 10' and 310 26' east and latitudes 290 18' and 290 32' north. A physiographic analysis using visual interpretation on ETM+ of false color composite of bands (7, 4, and 2) scale 1 : 250.000 and digital elevation model of the study area was carried out to delineate the different physiographic units. Twenty four soil profiles and 66 minipits were collected to represent the revised mapping units. The study area was separated into two main landscapes, the Hills (Hi) (which separated according to relief to Hills High, Hills Low and sloping area) and the flood plain (F). Soil texture of the study area ranged between sandy to sandy clay loam. Soil pH values ranged from7.1 to 8.0, EC values ranged from 0.31 to 6.9dS/m and organic matter values ranged from 0.2 to 1.7%. The soils were classified as TypicTorripsamments, TypicTorriorthents, TypicTorrifluvents. The results of land evaluation showed that the studied area could be classified into three classes, highly suitable (I) (19.10% of the study area), marginally suitable (III) (22.82% of the study area) and currently not suitable (IV) 32.55%of the study area UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
