Tuberculosis has few serological tests for diagnosis, the purpose of this study was to evaluate VEGF either serum or sputum as a helping tool for diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. The study was conducted on 64 patients and 10 healthy individuals as control group, the patients were divided into 21 patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis, 23 patients with inactive pulmonary tuberculosis, 10 patients with bronchiectasis and 10 patients diagnosed to have bronchogenic carcinoma. Serum and sputum levels of VEGF were measured in all patients and we found that serum and sputum levels in active T.B group were elevated in comparison with inactive T.B or control groups and the difference was statistically significant. We also found that sputum VEGF could be good indicator of activity than serum VEG and could be used as a tool of differentiation between T.B and other diseases as bronchiectasis and bronchogenic carcinoma
