This thesis advances two multifunctional near infra-red (NIR) absorbing gold nanoparticles to target breast cancer cells in-vitro and Ehrlich carcinoma in-vivo. The two developed formulations, gold nanoshells with mesoporous silica core (PEG-DOX-MPS-GNSs) and gold nanorods coated mesoporous silica (pGNRs@mSiO2-DOX), can both convert near infrared light energy into heat causing thermal damage to cancerous cells. Further, the incorporated mesoporous silica exhibit high drug loading capacity that can specifically deliver the anticancer drug doxorubicin into tumor site and release it in response to the acidic tumor microenvironment UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
