The aim of this randomized blind study was to evaluate the prophylactic effect of rectal acetaminophen versus intravenous pethidine on postoperative pain management in children undergoing tonsillectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 100 children, 3 to 10 years, ASA I or II scheduled for elective tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy were recruited for the study.Patients were randomized to receive either rectal acetaminophen 30-40 mg/kg "group A" or i.v. pethidine 0.5 mg/kg "group B" after induction of general anesthesia. The postoperative pain was assessed using face, legs, activity, cry and consolability scale (FLACC) for the first 6 hours. The need for rescue analgesic, intramuscular ketorolac 0.5 mg/kg, was recorded also after surgery UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
