The molecular determinants of the HCC progression are still under investigation. The Xeroderma Pigmentosum Complementation Group D (XPD) is a major DNA repair gene which plays a vital role in Nucleotide Excision repair (NER) which is reported to be associated with risk of several cancers. Genetic polymorphisms in XPD gene may influence individual variations in DNA repair capacity, which may be associated with increased risk of HCC.
