Introduction: Childhood asthma and obesity have reached epidemic proportions worldwide, and the latter is also contributing to increasing rates of related metabolic disorders, such as diabetes. Yet, the relationship between asthma, obesity, and abnormal lipid and glucose metabolism is not well understood, nor has it been adequately explored in children. We aimed in our study to elucidate the relationship of childhood asthma to metabolic syndrome risk factors. Material and Methods: A cross sectional case control study was conducted on 60 asthmatic children comparing them with 30 healthy age and sex matched control group in Allergy and Pulmonology Unit, New Children's Hospital, Cairo University. full history taking, clinical examination, anthropometric measurements in the form of weight, height, BMI, waist circumference and hip circumference and laboratory investigations in the form of total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotien, low density lipoprotien, fasting blood glucose, fasting serum insulin, insulin resistance estimated by HOMAIR were done
