Erythrocyte transfusions further exacerbate the iron overload. The development of hepcidin- based diagnostics and therapies for iron loading anemias may offer more effective approaches to prevent the toxicity associated with iron overload. The most common iron- loading anemias are major forms of Ý-thalassemia. This study aimed to evaluate the expression of hepcidin mRNA in Ý-thalassemia major patients.
