Electro hydraulic valves serve as interfaces between electrical devices and hydraulic systems, they convert low power electrical command signals into movement of spools to control large power, low speed hydraulic actuators. They are used extensively to drive virtually all the machines of modern industry. The objective of this thesis is to study and use an Electro hydraulic proportional valve (EHPV) to control and track a desired hydraulic cylinder displacement as fast as possible by using different techniques/ controllers. The valve and the hydraulic circuit are modeled SIMULINK (MATLAB software). The simulation models include module for the actuators and the valve spool dynamics including friction, piston motion, and nonlinear flow gain. The valve dynamics are identified using the System Identification toolbox in MATLAB, which is validated by actual valve spool results
