However, there was a significant difference between 4 groups at the end of surgery as patients in articaine group had lower pain scores during injection and surgery with longer duration of akinesia. And addition of fentanyl to bupivacaine prolong duration of the block more than that of bupivacaine only. Articaine 4% with hyalouronidase is more advantageous than bupivacaine 0.5% with hyalouronidase for peribulbar anesthesia in vitrectomy surgery and addition of fentanyl to bupivacaine 0.5% with hyalouronidase prolong duration of the block more than bupivacaine 0.5% with hyalouronidase but less than that of articaine 4%.
