Transmission expansion planning (TEP) aims to find the effective plan with exact location, time and types of new transmission lines equipment to meet the demand and generation. TEP of large scale systems has been always a very difficult task due to the complex and difficulties of the nonlinear problem. There are a lot of computational methods to solve the TEP problem. Generally, TEP is classified into two categories, static and dynamic planning. This thesis aims mainly to use a static planning model of transmission systems. The model is to be solved by mixed integer linear programming technique. The static model has been applied on medium term planning period of Yemen grid using two ways; set of lines selected under the assumption that each load bus should be only fed and set of lines selected under the assumption that each load bus should be connected by two different lines at two different routes at least, testing the solution of the static model by a load flow programming to determines the operation conditions of the planned Yemen grid
