Patients and Methods: 25 pediatric patients with hydrocephalus underwent placement of ventriculo-peritoneal shunts with different postoperative complications (proximal obstruction- distal end failure -infection). We reviewed their clinical and imaging progress to assess the postoperative shunt complications with a trial of available methods to prevent these complications. Results: In 25 pediatric patients with previously inserted V/P shunt, as for shunt malfunction (proximal obstruction and distal end failure), shunt revision succeeded in control of 84.6% (11 patients of 13) and two cases 15.4% needed further revision, and success rate of control of shunt infection was 83.4% (10 patients of 12) and two cases 16.6% showed EVD obstruction with further need of revision. Conclusions: Proper management of postoperative shunt complications relays on primary prevention, intraoperative meticulous precautions and early diagnostic evaluation of already existing complications with proper choice of its management strategy
