The present study was primarily designed to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of nanochitosan (NC) alone or in combination with quercetin (Q) against CCl₄ -induced hepatotoxicity in animal model. 4 Accordingly, adult female albino rats were treated for 3 weeks after being randomly assigned into 12 groups including the control group, the group treated with CCl twice a week (1.0 ml/kg b.w), the group treated with the low 4 dose of NC (NC-LD) (140 mg/kg/day), the group which received the high dose of NC (NC-HD) (280 mg/kg/day), the group that received Q (50 mg/kg/day), the groups treated with Q plus NC-LD, Q plus NC-HD, and the groups treated with CCl₄ plus Q and/or NC at the two tested doses. At the end of the treatment 4 period, blood and tissue samples were collected for serum biochemical and antioxidant enzymes analysis, oxidative stress markers, histological examination and genotoxicity evaluation. The results revealed that animals which received CCl showed a significant increase in AST, ALT, ALP, AFP, CEA and the level of lipid peroxidation measured as (MDA). In addition to a significant decrease in TP, albumin, GPx, CAT and SOD accompanied with severe histological changes in the liver and kidney tissues
