Background: Hypertension is one of the most common worldwide diseases afflicting humans. It is a major health problem throughout the world because of its high prevalence and its association with increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of diaphragmatic breathing exercise on arterial blood pressure from sitting versus supine position in essential hypertension. Results: The results revealed that there was highly statistically significant reduction in Arterial Blood Pressure in both Group A and Group B. but there wasnt statistically significant reduction in Arterial Blood Pressure between two groups. There was improvement in Group A than Group B. In Group A, the percentage of improvement for SBP and DBP was 6.11% and 4.06% , respectively. In Group B, the percentage of improvement for SBP and DBP was 4.11% and 3.21% respectively. Conclusion: There was improvement in Arterial blood pressure after diaphragmatic breathing exercise from either sitting or supine positions in favour of diaphragmatic breathing exercise from sitting position.
