Its purpose is to monitor fetal well-being and allow early detection of fetal distress. The nurses play a significance role in fetal monitoring, detection and early intervention for fetal distress. Aim: to assess knowledge of nurses toward use of cardiotocography. Design: A descriptive exploratory research design was adopted. Sample: A convenient sample of all nurses' who are working in maternity units in two hospitals used CTG; their total number is 62 nurses'. Setting: The study was conducted at Elmanial university hospital and new Elkasr AlaINI educational Hospital. Tool: A self-administered questionnaire that was developed by the investigator was used for data collection. Results: indicated that, there was a highly statistical significance diffrence between place of work and nurses' knowledge while no statistical significance difference was found between levels of education, years of experience and nurses' knowledge. Also, The result indicated that the nurses knowledge to ward CTG was 72.6 % of nurses having correct knowledge about the importance of using CTG, 69.4% regarding the basic component of CTG ,59.7% regarding to signs of fetal distress and 80.6% about nursing action toward fetal distress. Concolusion: The highest nurses' knowledge was as follows; the position of the mother when using CTG by (87.1%), the nursing action toward fetal distress by (80.6%), application of CTG with oxytocin by (77.4%), the importance of CTG by (72.6%), and the basic component for reading CTG by (69.4%). The lowest nurses knowledge was as follows; the relationship between CTG and cesarean section rate by (16.1%), the relationship between uterine contraction and fetal heart rate by (40.3%), and the abnormal uterine contraction by (48.4%). Also a highly statistical significance diffrence between place of work and nurses' knowledge. Recommendation: implementing an educational program about CTG to the nurses working in outpatient clinic and maternity units and assess its effect on nurses knowledge and performance UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
