Chapter I: Development and optimization of zolmitriptan-loaded Novasomal dispersion. Hydrophilic drug (ZT) was successfully loaded in a vesicular drug delivery system (niosomes and novasomes) using the thin film hydration technique. ZT-loaded novasomal dispersions had a rapid onset of action due to its initial release phase followed by sustained drug delivery due to its slower phase. Chapter II: Development and optimization of zolmitriptan-loaded novasomal muco- adhesive nasal gels (ZTLN-MNGs). ZTLN-MNGs were successfully prepared using different polymers in different concentration. The optimization process was performed in order to obtain gel with maximum values of muco-adhesion force (N), minimum viscosity at 100 rpm (cps.), and % ZT released after 2 hours in the range by numerical analysis using the design- Expert® software and based on the criterion of desirability. The highest desirability value was obtained by formulation (G7), which composed of 1 % w / v of carrageenan. Hence, it was selected as the best performing formulation for further investigations. Chapter III: Development and optimization of zolmitriptan-loaded Novasomal Dry powder Inhalers (ZTLN-DPIs) for nasal delivery. ZTLN-DPIs were successfully prepared using different in different concentrations by spray drying. The release profiles from mannitol and maltodextrin as ZTLN-DPIs-based carrier was similar to its corresponding novasomal dispersion. However, HPMC E15 as ZTLN- DPIs based carrier showed retardation effect on the % ZT released UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
