Nasoalveolar mold (NAM) is an orthodontic device used presurgically to reduce nasal deformity and help cases to perform nasal correction in primary lip repair in a trial to reduce or even prevent their need for secondary rhinoplasty. The objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of nasoalveolar mold as a presurgical modality to improve the surgical outcome of nasal deformity in primary repair of unilateral complete cleft lip cases with or without cleft palate. Eight cases of non syndromatic unilateral complete cleft lip used nasoalveolar mold presurgically compared to other eight control group cases of same condition did primary lip repair without using any modality presurgically. Basal view photographs of all patients in both groups were taken and analysis to estimate the similarity between cleft and non cleft sides of the affected nose in each case, by analyzing the measurements of ratio of hemicolumellar height, alar base width ratio and difference of domal angles between normal and cleft side of the nose, was done. Showed that NAM group had postsurgical hemicolumellar height ratio difference statistically significant (p<0.05) than the control group results indicating higher nasal symmetry in NAM group ER -
