One-dimensional porous silicon photonic crystals are formed by the electrochemical anodization process. The formation conditions are optimized to produce well-controlled single and multi band optical filters. Methods of eliminating the sidelobes appeared around the main bands, out-of-band noise, are discussed. The parameters affecting the morphology of the prepared filters are controlled. The stabilization of the prepared optical filters against natural oxidation is performed using two different novel approaches. The former approach involves thermal oxidation of the prepared filters, whereas the later approach employs the atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique to cover the pore wall with a protective ultrathin silica layer
