There has been a huge development in the capabilities of mobile devices over the past few years. Mobile devices have transitioned from single core to multi core for faster processing and support of a wide range of applications. Such development attracted researchers to study how to further increase the scope of applications and to utilize the full capabilities of mobile devices. One of the technologies that can allow the use of mobile devices to their fullest potential is Parallel Processing. The use of parallel processing along with effective means of inter-communication between mobile devices that surround us in our present vicinity may distribute resource demanding tasks throughout a number of available devices. In this research, a cluster of mobile devices was developed using the traditional tools, which are commonly used in building Linux based clusters. The cluster was first built to test the feasibility of using the available mobile devices as a High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure, which can serve as both a separate computing facility and as a node integrated into in a larger HPC cluster. The message passing interface library was cross-compiled for the target devices to be able to run parallel code on a single multi-cored mobile device, with each device considered a computing node to expand the cluster size. A secure connection was established for communication between the different nodes UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
