Introduction and purpose: Medical ethics is a system of moral principles that apply values and judgments to the practice of clinical medicine. The current study was conducted to assess healthcare ethics and law among physicians and patients in educational and non-educational hospitals. Study design: Observational cross-sectional study. Subjects: 180 physicians and 360 patients place: Zagazig university hospitals (Educational hospital), general Zagazig hospital and Ahrar hospital (Non-educational hospitals). Methodology: We took a sample of 180 physicians and 360 participants divided them between three hospitals according to allocation proportion. Assessment: The assessment was carried out by application of self-administrated questionnaire about knowledge, attitude and practice of healthcare ethics and interviewed-based questionnaire to patients. Results: There were significant difference in knowledge and practice score between the studied hospitals and the variance of total practice score with total attitude score recording a higher beta value than the total knowledge score. There was significant difference in perception of rights among patients in educational and non-educational hospitals. Conclusion: Improving knowledge and changing attitude of the physicians will have a great effect in improving practice of medical ethics among doctors
