A series of constant volume cyclic and static direct simple shear tests were conducted to evaluate the effects of salt content (SC), relative density (Dr), cyclic stress ratio (CSR), and vertical effective stress (vvc') on cyclic and static resistances of saline dredged sand soils. Under static loading, for the same Dras SC increases from 0.25% to 20%, the effective angle of internal friction (z') decreases. The effect of SC on z' is more pronounced as Dr increases. Under cyclic loading, in both loose and dense states, failure is found to be governed by liquefaction rather than cyclic mobility. The increase in SC from 0.25 to 9% does not cause significant change in cyclic resistance ratio (CRR). However, CRR increases as SC increases beyond 9%. For the same SC and Dr, CRR decreases as vvc' increases. For different SC, at the same CSR and vvc', number of cycles to cause failure (Nf) increases as Dr increases. Finally, a correlation between CRR and vvc', Dr, and SC of dredged sand is developed UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
