Also the term social sustainability is very little known in developing countries, it{u2019}s hard to define and measure especially when it is related to the built environment. Under such challenging conditions the developing countries should consider urban density as a potential and take advantage from it to help in achieving their high ambitions in achieving global standards such as social sustainability. Greater Cairo is one of the most dynamic cities; it has a vibrant urban density that varies between low and high densities and also has great ambitions and vision to achieve sustainable development. Accordingly, this research discusses the concept of urban density and how it plays a role in achieving social sustainability at the neighborhood urban scale in greater Cairo city.This is achieved through reviewing the literature regarding these aspects, understanding their definitions, how they can be measured with in the neighborhoods urban scale, and developing analysis approach. And to get tough results and test this approach on the context of greater Cairo; this approach will be applied on four case studies that are divided into two categories existing cities which have high urban densities and new cities which have low urban densities.This research ends with conclusions and recommendations about the relationship between urban density and social sustainability in greater Cairo context and how these terms work together and impact on the urban environment ER -
