Background : Different grafting techniques and materials have been proposed for elevation and augmentation of maxillary sinus floor to solve the problem of inadequate alveolar bone quantity which hinders the placement of root form end osseous dental implants in atrophic posterior maxilla. Purpose The aim of the present study to compare gelfoam(absorbable gelatin sponge) as a space filling material versus xenograft (Tutogen) in augmentation and elevation of maxillary sinus floor with simultaneous implant placement. Material and Methods Eighteen cases of maxillary sinus floor elevation were randomly divided into 2 groups. The first group received xenograft as grafting material through lateral window approach with simultaneous implant placement while the second group received gelfoam as a space maintainer through lateral window approach with simultaneous implant placement and titanium mesh as non resorbable membrane used for closure of the lateral window in both groups. CBCT were obtained immediately postoperative and 6 months after operation to measure bone height gained and gray scale value. Osstell readings were taken at the time of implant placement and implant exposure (6 months) to measure implant stability
