The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of polymixin resistance among XDR gram negative isolates from Kasr Alainy Hospital. We collected 300 isolates of XDR acinetobacter spp., klebsiella pneumoniae and pseudomonas aeruginosa. Most of our isolates came from patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU), in 68.0% of XDR Klebsiella pneumoniae, 65.1% of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and 75.6% of acinetobacter baumannii isolates. The prevalence of colistin non-susceptibility among Klebsiella pneumoniae was 9%, in P. aeruginosa was 18% and in A. baumannii was 23%. To conclude, threats of XDR Klebsiella pneumoniae, pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii isolates resistant to polymixins, become of a major concern in our hospital urging the implementation of infection control strategies and antimicrobial stewardship UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
