On average, the life expectancy of smokers is reduced by almost 10 years. Smoking cessation can decrease the risk of related diseases and mortality. Patient empowerment is a process, through which people gain greater control over decisions and actions affecting their health. Aim: The aim of the study is to assess the effect of empowerment technique on nicotine dependence score and on progress of patient in stage of change. Also to detect differences between the traditional health education model and the empowerment model on smoking cessation. Methods: This is a single blinded randomized controlled clinical trial that carried on 78 positive current smokers aging between 18-64 years to compare between the effect of empowerment model and traditional health education model on decreasing nicotine dependence score and on smoking quitting stages of change. All study participants all submitted to 5 health educational sessions over 3 months follow up period ER -
