Firstly, acrylonitrile was polymerized using controlled polymerization technique which is single electron transfer-living radical polymerization technique (SET-LRP) in presence of CCl4 as initiator. The Prepared poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) has reactive end function as chloride group (-CH-Cl). The Prepared PAN-Cl has been grafted onto gelatin to obtain amphiphilic copolymer Gel-g-PAN. The copolymer was characterized using quantitative FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, solubility and thermogravimetric analyses. Finally, nanoparticles based on prepared Gel-g-PAN were formed through nanoprecipitation technique and characterized by Transmission electron microscope (TEM). Different applications were tested for formed nanoparticles like metal ions and dye uptake and also encapsulation of hydrophobic model. Secondly, chemical modification of gelatin has been done through grafting using N-vinylimidazole (NVI). The kinetic parameters of grafting process included monomer concentration, initiator concentration and reaction temperature and time were studied. The grafting parameters such as thepercent graft yield (% G), percent graft efficiency (% GE) and percenthomopolymer (% H) were calculated and determined optimum conditions for grafting process UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
