Streptococcus pneumoniae is the most common cause of pneumonia as well as a number of invasive diseases, such as meningitis and sepsis, and non-invasive mucosal diseases, such as otitis media and sinusitis.Pneumococcal carriage prevalence is 79% at 6{u2013}11 months and 51% at 54{u2013}59 months. The incidence of invasive Pneumococcal disease (IPD)in children in the Arabian Peninsula and Egypt aged{u2264} 5 years ranged from 3.4 to 53.5 per 100000. Urinary pneumococcal antigen detection by Binax NOW is now being considered indicative of invasive pneumococcal infection. The 60 patients are categorized according to the Pediatric Respiratory Severity Score (PRESS score) into mild 11.7% (no=7), moderate 50% (no=30) and severe 38.3% (no=23).PCR results showed mean 4661187 ± 18410572 , positive reaction to Streptococcus pneumoniae in 20% (no=12); and 38.3% (no=23) had Streptococcus pneumoniae as flora.Comparing the BinaxNow to the PCR as a gold standard for diagnosing pneumococcal pneumonia ; it was found that BinaxNow has sensitivity of 75% and specificity of 100% UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
