This dissertation seeks to identify the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs{u2019}) both on the national and international level in the development of women{u2019}s socioeconomic status through utilizing social media platforms in Nairobi, Kenya. The study uses a questionnaire form, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and case studies to identify the role, programs, achievements and challenges of NGOs in enhancing women{u2019}s socioeconomic life. The study firstly focuses on NGOs{u2019} efforts in easing the sociocultural stigmas facing women{u2019}s development such as female genital mutilation (FGM), early marriage, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and spread of HIV/AIDS epidemic through their diversified programs, advocacy, and media campaigns. Secondly, the study emphasizes on how NGOs{u2019} utilize social media platforms to firstly, promote their activates and programs. Secondly, the study highlights how NGOs develop informative messages as a tool in raising awareness on women{u2019}s topics aiming to change the mindset and behavior of the society in general, and women in particular ER -
