Purpose: This study was designed to determine the effect of early mobilization in improving ventilatory functions in individuals undergoing open heart surgery. Methods: Forty patients of both sexes (31 males and 9 females) who underwent open heart surgery were selected from National Heart Institute in the duration from April to July 2019. Their age ranged from 45-65 years. They were randomly assigned into two groups equal in number, twenty in each group. Group I (intervention group) received early mobilization and routine chest physiotherapy(deep breathing exercises and splinted coughing); and Group II (control group) received only routine chest physiotherapy. Patients in both groups underwent two sessions of physical therapy for the first two pre and post-operative day and once per day on the third and up to the tenth post-operative day. All of them underwent evaluation of ventilatory functions: Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), Forced Expiratory Volume in the First Second (FEV1) and Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) before treatment application and after ten days post-operatively
