HRQOL was assessed by using Short Form-36 health survey questionnaire, version 2 (SF-36v2).Results: The mean ± SD age of the patients was 7.7 ± 3.8 years. After reviewing the patients' quality of life, it was observed that the mean score for physical function was 66.80, role limitations due to physical reasons 59.71, bodily pain 60.08, general health 39.90, fatigue or vitality 53.70, social function 60.09, role limitations due to psychological reasons (emotional) 46.59 and mental health 58.62. There was a negative correlation between frequency of blood transfusion domain and physical domain (r= -0.596, P<0.001) and also body pain domain (r=0.508, p<0.001). The ferritin level was a significant negative predictor for all domains except vitality. The gender of the patient was not found to be predictor for all domains. Conclusion: Thalassemia in children significantly affects HRQOL especially regarding general health, physical and mental aspects. Frequency of blood transfusion and ferritin level are negative predictors of QOL in these patients ER -
