However, it is also one of the most critical elements for causing eutrophication. Hence, it is important to maintain the phosphorus level in the aquatic environments in the acceptable limits through efficient removal technique. In this research, nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) particles supported on activated carbon (AC) were synthesized using the chemical reduction method and utilized in phosphorus removal batches. The characterization of the prepared composite by SEM, EDX, and BET SSA revealed that the nZVI was successfully loaded and well dispersed onto AC surface, and nZVI/AC particles exhibited large specific surface area (72.66 m2/g). XRD and FTIR analysis showed that the formation of nZVI particles with less oxidized iron products (Fe2O3) on the surface of nZVI/AC.Batch experiments were carried out under different conditions to study the effect of parameters such as aerobic and anaerobic conditions, pH value, initial phosphorus concentration, nZVI/AC dose, shaker rotation speed and ambient air temperature ER -
