The work in this thesis is divided into: Chapter 1: Formulation & evaluation of alfuzosin hydrochloride-loaded floating tablets utilizing sublimation technique. Chapter 2: Formulation & evaluation of alfuzosin hydrochloride-loaded low-density gastroretentive sponges. Chapter 1: Formulation & evaluation of alfuzosin hydrochloride-loaded floating tablets utilizing sublimation technique. Gastroretentive tablets were prepared, according to a 3 1{u00D7} 2 1{u00D7}4 1 full factorial design, by direct compression method followed by a sublimation process. HPMC K4M, PEO WSR N 60K or carbopol 934 were used as release retarding polymers. Camphor or menthol were used as sublimable agents, each in a concentration of 3%, 6%, 9% or 12% w/w. FTIR and DSC were performed to check drug-excipients compatibility. The developed tablets were evaluated regarding their appearance, hardness, friability, density, floating behavior as well as in vitro ALF release. The optimized formula was selected, based on the desirability value, and morphologically evaluated via SEM. In addition, in vivo monitoring of its gastroretentivity was performed after loading with magnetite via MRI ER -
