Abstract : The thesis is compound of two main original parts. In the first part, a novel series of interesting N-(pyrazol-5-yl)pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile, pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrido[3,2-e]pyrimidine-7- carbonitrile and pyrazolo[4,3-e]pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidine-6,8-dicarbonitrile derivatives were prepared via the versatile readily accessible 7-aminopyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5(4H)-one or 2-cyano-N-(pyrazol-5- yl)acetamide derivatives with arylaldehydes and malononitrile in ethanol containing piperidine. In the second part, the reaction of 7-aminopyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5(4H)-one and aldehydes with a series of active methylenes afforded the corresponding heptaza-dicyclopenta[a,j]anthracene-5,7-diones, Pyrazolo[5',1':2,3]pyrimido[4,5-b]quinoline-5,7(4H,8H)-dione,pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrido[3,2-e]pyrimidine-7- carbonitriles, indeno[2',1':5,6]pyrido[3,2-e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-5,7-diones, Chromeno[3',4':5,6]pyrido[3,2-e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-5,7(4H)-diones, and 1,4,8,10,11,11b-hexazacyclopenta[ a]anthracene-5,7,9-trione derivatives in good to excellent yield
