It remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in neonates. Pathophysiology of neonatal sepsis is complex, multifactorial, oxidative stress and antioxidant imbalance plays an important role. Aims: to assess the alteration in serum antioxidant level in neonatal sepsis. Methods: This is a prospective case-control study. It has been conducted on one hundred neonates recruited from the neonatal intensive care unit,Cairo university hospitals. The neonates were divided into two groups: Seventy septic neonates of both sexes, preterm or fullterm at any postnatal age (clinically and/or laboratory) proved sepsis and thirty healthy aseptic neonates age and gender matched as controls. Sepsis was scored according to the hematologic scoring system(Rodwell score). Serum creatine phosphokinase, albumin and uric acid levels were done on chemistry autoanalyzer (Beckman Coulter), glutathione peroxidase by colorimetric method on spectrophotometer ultraspectro (pro3100) ER -
