The cities today are full of inappropriate and disturbing elements in terms of visual and functional qualities. It is important for people to have beautiful and appropriate spaces that are in harmony with their environment and express their identity. Accordingly urban designers look to public art as an opportunity to create lively and dynamic city. From fountains to sculptures and buildings, public art colors and influences public spaces and the city as a whole. It supports interaction, suggesting meanings, symbolism and identity to people. Undoubtedly, Public art has become one of the most important tools to increase the quality and aesthetics of the city and to satisfy social and cultural needs of people. It also expresses the identity and characteristics of the city. So, this study aims to explain how to select public art and understanding its role in creating the image of the city
