The aim of this study was to compare the effect of aerobic treadmill exercise on the insulin resistance and biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease to those effects exerted by metformin treatment in diabetic rats. In this work four groups of experimental animals were formed of ten rats including: control group, diabetic sedentary non-treated group, diabetic exercised group and a diabetic metformin treated group. For each group serum glucose, insulin, free fatty acids, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides, brain AÝ42 and glucose, latency of step-down avoidance task (2 hour and 48 hour after training) and finally immunohistochemistry for brain AÝ42 and tau positive cells were estimated. Diabetes had led to significant increase in serum glucose, FFA, TG, Cholesterol, LDL, Brain AÝ42, brain glucose and brain AÝ42 and tau positive cells and causedsignificant decrease in serum insulin, serum HDL and latency of step-down avoidance task (2 hours and 48 hours after training). Treadmill exercise caused a significant decrease in serum glucose, serum FFA, TG, cholesterol, LDL, brain glucose, brain AÝ42, brain AÝ42 and tau positive cells and a significant increase in serum insulin UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
