Cinnarizine is indicated orally as tablets of 25 and 75mg for the treatment of vertigo, tinnitus, hearing loss and nausea associated with Ménière's syndrome. It has a local anaesthetic effect in addition to its ability to manage cerebrovascular insufficiency, cases of memory reduction and migraine. However, Cinnarizine is highly metabolized primarily by the liver. The present study aims to develop an aural Cinnarizine mucoadhesive transfersomal gel that overcomes the liver first pass metabolic effect. The gel form provides a targeted and suitable residence of the Cinnarizine Transfersomes over the tympanic membrane; the elastic vesicles can pass through the intact tympanic membrane to the middle ear then into the systemic circulation. The work in this thesis is divided into three chapters, namely: Chapter I: Formulation and evaluation of Cinnarizine nano- Transfersomes. Chapter II: Formulation and evaluation of Cinnarizine Transfersomes into aural mucoadhesive gel delivery systems. Chapter III: A Pharmacokinetic study of Cinnarizine aural transfersomal gel on rabbits.
