This study presents a numerical study of the transient events following the ignition of a flammable mixture of air premixed with hydrogen or LPG at different equivalence ratios inside a small semi-confined compartment obstructed with various obstacles to induce different levels of turbulence. The compartment and the data used for validation are obtained from previous experimental work that was carried out in Sydney University, Australia. The configuration of the rig is a square cross-section of 50 x 50 with length of 250 mm made of Perspex to allow laser diagnosis to detect the position of the flame front at different time steps. The numerical facility used is an in-house code named "PUFFIN" developed by a collaborative group in Loughborough University. This numerical tool applies large eddy simulation techniques with the turbulence treated using a dynamic Smagornisky model and the combustion is treated by a modified dynamic flame-let surface density model
