This study examines the techniques and results of various types of internal hemipelvectomy and the salvage of the lower extremity in relation to morbidity and limb functionSurgery was conducted on 40 patients treated between 1993 - 2003 at NCIResection was designed to conserve boneType I internal hemipelvectomy was done in 28cases , combined type I and II in 8 cases and type III in 4 casesNo reconstruction was attemptedPostoperative morbidity (40 In hundered persent) was mainly related to wound complicationsNo patient required amputationIsolated local failure occurred in six patientsThe majority of patients have no pain and ambulate without crutchesBy careful selection , limb sparing for pelvic bone tumours can be performed safely , resulting in an acceptable morbidity and remarkably good function
