Methods: 84 children including 42 cases with acute encephalitis between 1month to 18 years and 42 age and surface area matched controls, underwent full history taking, clinical examination, andsubjected to conventional echocardiography and 3D Speckle tracking echocardiography which is able to discriminate the myocardial dysfunction in cases of acute encephalitis through assessment diastolic and systolic functions. Laboratory tests and imaging including CSFanalysis and culture, CT, MRI, EEG were derived from patient{u2019}s file. Results: Acute encephalitic patients had a myocardial dysfunction, the advanced echo parameters showed LVE/E' ratio (cases: 15.24± 1.68 vs. controls: 7.62± 2.39; p value < 0.001); RVE/E' ratio (cases: 12.11± 1.67 vs. controls: 19.65 ± 2.95; p value < 0.001); GLS (cases: 12.33± 1.37 vs. controls: 8.13± 2.01; p value < 0.001) UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
