Methodology: Forty male albino rats weighing 250±25 g were randomly divided into four equal groups: 1- Group I (control group): served as control. 2- Group II (diabetic group): rats received a single intra-peritoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg) for diabetes mellitus induction. 3- Group III (diabetic + PRP treated group): as group II + local injection of PRP in rats tongue after o ne month of diabetes induction. 4- Group IV (diabetic + BMSCs treated group): as group II + local injection of BMSCs in the rats tongue after one month of diabetes induction. After 30 days, all animals were euthanized and all tongues were dissected. The right half of the anterior 2/3 together with the posterior 1/3 of the tongue were processed and examined by histologically and histomorphometrically. While the left half of the anterior 2/3 was examined by scanning electron microscope. Real time PCR was used to detect the expression of proliferative gene Ki-67.Results: The tongue of group II showed significant atrophic and degenerative changes as compared to group I. Group III and group IV tongue showed marked histological improvements, being more noticeable in group IV than group III. The morphometric analysis performed for each group revealed a significant increase in the mean epithelial thickness and area percentage occupied by acini in group III and group IV in comparison to group II (P < 0.05) UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
