Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Summary: Idiopathic tibia vara is one of the pathological idiopathic causes of genu varum. Includes the infantile and late-onset (adolescent) types. Pathological changes are localized to the posteromedial part of the proximal tibia due to the increased stresses on this part. Patients are obese with varus and internal torsion of the tibia. Non operative treatment is an option in a select group of infantile tibia vara patients. In late-onset type or neglected infantile type, surgical intervention is indicated including osteotomies, epiphysiodesis and elevation of depressed medial plateau. Treatment by external fixators is becoming more popular for gradual precise correction. Prognosis depends on the patient's age and the severity of deformity at the time of intervention. Infantile tibia vara has a good prognosis, and recurrence rates of deformity are low when treated at a young age and early stage
