[Added title page title]
Subject(s): Online resources: Available additional physical forms:
  • Issued also as CD
Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Periodontology Summary: Introduction: After proving the safety of Oral Bisphosphonates, the time has come to study thoroughly the effect of different doses of BPPs on the osseointegration process. Subjects & methods: 25 rabbits were divided into 3 groups; 5 control, 10 high dose &10 standard dose. All received single implant in the head of the femur and were kept for a month. After termination the samples were analyzed through radioactive dating, CBCT and histology. Results: High dose group showed the best results in contact osseointegration, while the standard dose group showed the best distant osseointegration. BPPs showed distinct anti-inflammatory effect, apoptotic effect on the osteoclasts and up regulating effect on osteoblasts. Conclusion: BPPs affect the bone density around the implant differently. This fact should direct us to categorizing the osseointegration again based on the effect of difference in bone density around the implant and far from it
