The aim of this thesis is to examine the effect of board of directors characteristics and ownership structure on bank performance in Africa. On a sample of one hundred and twenty five banks operating in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisite, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, Nigeria, the study provides valuable insights into corporate governancemechanisms and the effects of such corporate governance mechanisms on bank performance from 2009-2013
