Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University -Faculty of Science - Department of Physical Chemistry Summary: The present study aims to evaluate the inhibitive effect of three synthesized Gemini surfactants and extracts of three plants on the corrosion of carbon steel in formation water using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization and EIS measurements. All tested materials have served as effective mixed-type corrosion inhibitors. The adsorption behavior of these inhibitors on carbon steel surface was well described via Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The activation parameters for the dissolution of carbon steel in formation water solutions in the absence and presence of these inhibitors were calculated and discussed. The effect of immersion time was studied using weight loss method to evaluate the stability and durability of protective films adsorbed on the carbon steel surface. The morphology of carbon steel surface in inhibited and uninhibited solutions was investigated via SEM, EDX and FT-IR analyses
