Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Architectural Engineering Summary: Urban public squares, within the context of public spaces, are essential components of cities because they provide spaces for social, cultural & political interaction. This helps sustain the humanizing of the society through users gathering, and engaging together into various human activities and can make significant contributions to the cultural development of communities. In the last years, the concept of public space has been redefined within the context of urban space due to the effect of surrounding events such as economic, political and the memorial events. The fundamental change in the political situation in most countries of the world have led to the release of many of the various revolutions in the public squares, making these fields a turning point to the study of the use of these spaces, and how it was affected by human behavior in terms of the moral and material rights and how they impact them functionally. The aim of this study is to extract humanistic design attributes that can be used in the production of a sustainable public square in any town. To do that, the study explores the meaning of urban square as a public space through users{u201F} eyes. Furthermore, it examines the political experience, social, and cultural components (regarding the behavioral, psychological, physical, visual-aesthetic, geographical and managerial aspects) of urban square and critically reflects on the design of the Square, that led architects to begin in designing sustainable spaces accommodating the unusual gatherings and are provided with taking into consideration the human aspects
