Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Computers and Information - Department of Computers Science Summary: Social networks analysis presents social relationships in terms of network theory composed of nodes and edges (also can be called links, connections or ties), Nodes are the individual actors within the networks, and ties are the relationships between the actors. The resulting graph-based structures are often very complex. There can be many kinds of ties between the nodes. Research in a number of academic fields has shown that social networks operate on many levels, from families up to the level of nations, and play a critical role in determining the way problems are solved, organizations are run, and the degree to which individuals succeed in achieving their goals. Community detection in networks has raised an important research topic in recent years. Finding a community in social network is to identify a set of nodes such that they interact with each other frequently than with those nodes outside the group. Also community detection can ease other social computing tasks that can be applied to several real world applications, community detection also can be used to compress large networks producing smaller ones, which make it much easier to visualize and understand.
